Living in East City: One of Peterborough's Most Charming Neighbourhoods

If you ask me about my favourite neighbourhood in Peterborough, my answer is always the same: East City.

There is just something special about it. It has a character that's hard to describe until you've spent time there. From the tree-lined streets and beautiful century homes to the local businesses and strong sense of community, East City offers a lifestyle that feels welcoming from the moment you arrive.

One of the things I love most is that, despite being just minutes from downtown Peterborough, East City has the feel of a small town. Neighbours know one another, people stop to chat on their walks, and there's a true sense of community that makes it easy to feel at home.

A Neighbourhood Full of Character

East City, formerly known as the Village of Ashburnham, has a rich history that is still reflected in its architecture and streets today. You'll find everything from charming century homes and bungalows to updated family homes and newer developments, giving buyers plenty of options while preserving the neighbourhood's unique character.

Family Friendly Living

As a parent, one of the reasons East City has always held a special place in my heart is Immaculate Conception Catholic Elementary School.

My own children attended Immaculate Conception, and it was an experience our family truly appreciated. The school has a warm, close-knit atmosphere that reflects the community around it. It's one of those places where families feel connected and children are encouraged to grow in a supportive environment. The school has served East City's Catholic community for generations, adding to the neighbourhood's strong sense of tradition.

There are also several other excellent schools nearby, making East City a popular choice for families looking to put down roots.

Parks, Trails and Outdoor Living

If you enjoy spending time outdoors, East City has so much to offer.

Residents are just minutes from Beavermead Park, Rogers Cove, Nicholls Oval, Armour Hill, the Rotary Greenway Trail, and the beautiful Otonabee River. You can enjoy walking, biking, kayaking, skating in the winter, or simply taking in the scenery. It's easy to see why so many people love living here.

Local Shops You'll Love

One of my favourite things about East City is supporting the local businesses.

Hunter Street East is home to a variety of cafés, bakeries, restaurants, boutiques, and specialty shops that give the neighbourhood its unique personality. It's the kind of place where grabbing a coffee or meeting friends for lunch feels like part of your daily routine.

Close to Everything

Although East City has its own identity, you're never far from everything Peterborough has to offer.

Downtown is just across the Hunter Street Bridge, giving residents quick access to shopping, restaurants, entertainment, healthcare, and community events. You get the best of both worlds: a peaceful neighbourhood with the convenience of city amenities just minutes away.

Why I Love East City

As a REALTOR®, I've had the opportunity to explore every corner of Peterborough, and every neighbourhood has something unique to offer.

But East City has always stood out to me.

Maybe it's the welcoming atmosphere. Maybe it's the beautiful homes. Maybe it's the memories of watching my own children grow up through their years at Immaculate Conception.

Whatever the reason, East City feels like home to so many people, and it's easy to understand why.

If you're thinking about making a move to Peterborough and want to learn more about East City or any of our wonderful neighbourhoods, I'd be happy to help you find the community that's the right fit for you.
